For the purposes of this document wherever DanceAUS Group or ‘the company’ appears, it also refers to any associated Companies or DanceAUS Group partners. DanceAUS Group operations include DanceSA, DanceWA, DanceVIC, DanceQLD, DanceNSW, DanceACT, DanceNT, DanceQLD and Schools Challenge Australia
Purpose of the Child Protection and Code of Conduct Policy
DanceAUS Group is committed to the ongoing safety and wellbeing of its students.
We are dedicated to creating an environment ensuring all students feel equal, respected and safe.
DanceAUS Group Employees
DanceAUS Group employees are required to hold and continually update the following;

Report of Abuse and Neglect Training

Provide a DCSI (Department of Communities and Social Inclusion) Certificate
Undergo regular Teacher Evaluation reporting to ensure professionalism of our employees is of the highest standard.
Required to undergo company training in areas of child safety, first aid and incident management.
Adhere to the Dance Teachers Code of Ethics Statement administered by the Australian Dance Council.
Due to the nature of dance training, some physical contact may be necessary by a teacher to demonstrate exercises or techniques during a class, or if there is any need to administer first aid.
Teachers are unable to have contact with students through any social media platform
All employees have signed and agreed to the bounds of a confidentiality agreement and employee contract detailing their obligations as an employee for DanceAUS Group.
It is the responsibility of an employee to report any breach in ethical conduct by another employee directly to the company Director.
It is the responsibility of an employee to report the concern of the suspicion of child abuse and neglect directly to the company Director. It is then the responsibility of the company Director to make a formal notification to government authorities.
It is a requirement of DanceAUS Group employees to embody the company culture and purpose.

Drop off and Collection
It is a requirement of parents/caregivers to drop students into the dance space and collect students from inside the dance space.
Students are unable to leave the dance space until the parent/caregiver has been sighted.
Parents/caregivers of students 15 years and over can complete a ‘permission to leave unsupervised’ form that will allow DanceAUS Group to accept parent/caregiver arrangements of students walking to and from the dance space unsupervised.
A parent/caregiver must give personal contact to authorise their student to go home with another family.
If a parent/caregiver is late in collecting their student, DanceAUS Group will contact the primary contact number followed by the emergency contact.
Teachers are unable to transport students to or from dance classes.
Custody arrangements of students are respected and must be presented in writing by a law enforcement organisation.
Appropriateness
Costumes, movement and music are selected to be age appropriate and will not feature explicit, profanities or derogatory content.
Creative content will uphold respect and ensure all messages and learnings from class are inspiring, empowering and deliver self-fulfillment and encouragement.
Behaviour
DanceAUS Group will not tolerate any form of bullying within our network by students, parents/caregivers or employees.
If an incident occurs, an ‘incident report’ form is completed by relevant parties and presented to the Director for review. If necessary, an action plan and follow up of the incident will occur.
All parties involved will be notified of the situation and outcome.
Medical Information & Medication
Upon enrolment, parents/caregivers complete an ‘Enrolment Form’. They are required to provide any medical conditions, medication required and an emergency contact person other than the main parent/caregiver contact.
If a student has Type 1 Diabetes, Asthma, Anaphylaxis or any other serious allergies, parents/caregivers will be required to provide a ‘Management Plan’ for their condition. A copy will remain at the DanceAUS Group head office and a second copy will be issued to the class teacher for on site management.
On site medication is to be provided to the teacher in a clearly marked bag with the student name on it.
Medical information is only accessible by our head office team and the student’s specific teacher only.
First Aid and Safety
All class teachers carry an updated master list of student details, including medical information, emergency contacts and other important information required in an emergency.
All class teachers carry a first aid kit in their teaching equipment.
If an injury occurs, either prior to or during class, it is the responsibility of the student/parent/caregiver to notify the teacher of such injury, if not already discovered by the teacher.
Any injury or illness that may restrict a student from participation is also to be reported to the teacher.
The parent/caregiver agrees to accept full responsibility for any injury sustained by themselves or their child while attending classes, for an injury to their child/children in the waiting areas, and for any loss or damaged property.
If a student suffers any trauma through injury, accident or any other circumstance, an immediate risk assessment will be done assessing whether an ambulance will need to be called. The parent/caregiver will be contacted after this occurs. If the parent is unavailable through the contact numbers provided, we will then contact the emergency contact listed.
Any injuries or first aid will be communicated to the parent after class by the teacher with the student present.
All first aid related events will be reported using a ‘first aid report’ document and presented to the Director for review. If necessary, an action plan and follow up of the incident will occur.
All parties involved will be notified of the situation and outcome.
Performance Protection
All parent volunteers applying to assist backstage with student dressing are required to provide a police clearance to be able to take on this role.
Tickets are sold with allocated seating which enables DanceAUS Group to locate families in cases of emergency. Our ticket company requires full details of the person purchasing tickets, this information is crosschecked against our student database for security.
A member of St John’s First Aid are present at DanceAUS Group performances.
DanceAUS Group event management staff are required to complete a venue safety induction and risk assessment matrix prior to occupancy of a theatre.
All students are required to have selected undergarments to wear underneath costumes to prevent any nudity.
Audience members are prohibited from taking photos and video of the performance to protect the privacy of the students.
DanceAUS Group provide a photography and videography service enabling purchasers to be screened through our database.
All photos displayed from performances on our photo website www.dancesaphotos.com are restricted to registrants only which are database screened. All access controls on this website are monitored and can be restricted by DanceAUS Group at any time.
The Videographer is provided with a name only database of students to clear parents/caregivers names before purchasing online.
A person to person contact system is activated for drop off and collection at the performances.
Class Dynamics and Adults in the Dance Space
Maximum class sizes will not exceed;
Quantity of 25
Parents/caregivers are welcome inside the dance space to view the free trial class, after this we encourage adults to wait in the foyer area or outside to minimise noise and enable a focused learning environment.
Parents/caregivers are invited to attend an open day at the conclusion of terms 1, 2 and 4. Term 3 is excluded as this is near our performances.
If a parent/caregiver wishes to organise a class viewing at any time, they may do so with their teacher. This minimises the quantity of adults in the dance space at one time.
Any adult entering the dance space will be immediately asked to leave if not known to the teacher.
Parent/Caregiver Communication
It is expected that all communication between parent/caregiver and DanceAUS Group employees is delivered in an appropriate manner.
All concerns and feedback are to be communicated to management in writing via email or by phone call. It is expected the communication provides a calm conversation with constructive language with an intention to reach resolution.
Any communication received not in favour of the statement above may be reported to the Office of Consumer and Business Affairs or result in removal of the individual and student from the DanceAUS Group network.

Code of Ethics for Dance Teachers
Studio principals will have clearly defined aims and goals. The benefits an individual student can expect to receive through staff’s conscientious implementation of these aims and goals will be clearly stated.

Studio principals will make sure that the school and its staff is capable of providing any services claimed.

Studio principals will employ teaching staff with the experience, knowledge and/or qualifications required for the range of levels and techniques being taught. Student teachers will be trained and supervised to ensure the school’s teaching standards are maintained.

Studio principals will provide effective assessment procedures and will ensure that students and parents receive, or have access to, advice when necessary.

Studio principals will conform to sound business practice and provide an efficient fee system.

Studio principals and individual teachers will ensure that class sizes are suitable to the levels and techniques being taught. Students in each class will be of a similar age and/or standard.

Studio principals and individual teachers will ensure that facilities provided:

conform with minimum safety and space requirements

have suitable flooring, with a safe surface designed and constructed to minimise risk of injury.

Individual teachers will use effective and flexible teaching skills to create a productive learning environment. Individual teachers will recognise the role of dance in the development of the whole person. They will also seek to recognise and develop each student’s potential, whether it lies in dance or in related fields, and offer appropriate guidance for further progress.
